Minnetonka Boulevard
Hennepin County, in coordination with the City of St. Louis Park, is planning to reconstruct Minnetonka Boulevard (County Road 5) between Vernon Avenue and Xylon Avenue. Construction is planned to begin in 2027.
We want to hear your vision for the future of Minnetonka Boulevard. Check back here for opportunities, both virtual and in-person, to tell us about how you use the road today and how you think it can be improved. Your input, alongside city and county plans, technical needs and feasibility, will inform design decisions in the months ahead.

Please extend the trail a little bit futrher...
by myUserName, 22 days agoTo the west - past Xylon.Trail is OK on the south side of Minnetonka Boulevard under, east, and west of 169. However...riding westbound on the north side of Minnetonka Boulevard under 169 is really sketchy. Dangerous. And there is no safe way to cross over to the trail on the south side of Minnetonka Boulevard in that vicinity.
Thanks! I *love* what has been accomplished with the Cedar Lake Road improvement between 169 and Highway 100!

Minnetonka Blvd
by Matt Wandzel, 23 days agoWhether it's on the road or a dedicated lane, the bike lanes need to be addressed. The Minnetonka Blvd "bike lane" has been one of the worst bike lanes in the greater Minneapolis area for at least five years. I personally think a bike lane similar to Plymouth Ave in Minneapolis would be great. Street level but separated by bollards/a curb. -
A less stressful drive and walk
by Cdf618, 24 days agoI would prefer two driving lanes with one in each direction with a center turn lane in the middle, wider sidewalks, and a 30 mph speed limit.I would sacrifice the bike lane as there are multiple other east-west bikeways in the area.
I've had multiple occasions where people pass in the bike lane while I'm stopping for a pedestrian, so I agree with other commenters desire for more pedestrian signaling.
Also, it would be great if a solution could be found to reduce the chaos in front of Texa-Tonka.

Mtka Blvd
by Linda, 24 days agoAfter going through the complete restructure on Texas Avenue, it's obvious that Mtka Blvd is in need of work. The road is structurally a mess - potholes and ruts need to be fixed. I agree with the comments about safety for all people being important. However, I find it tiresome to listen to the bicyclists who seem to make any road construction about themselves. They were quite vocal during the Texas project and because of them, designated bike lanes were added (by the city using the right of way - from people's property) to expand the road. I could count... City Hall Worker
by Ellie , 24 days agoMy vision for Minnetonka Blvd is a street that I can feel safe not only driving into work, but also biking and bussing. Although it is a more direct route to take Minnetonka Blvd to City Hall, I have almost never biked down it due to safety concerns and instead take a longer circuitous route. I also hope for residents to more easily cross the street to access City Hall and other businesses. -
Safer pedestrian crossings, safer bike separation, slower speeds, roundabouts at major intersections
by SLPJohn, 24 days agoMinnetonka Blvd has become more of a throughfare in the 35 years I have lived here. Through traffic should be encouraged to use Hwy 7 and Hwy 394 for east/west travel, leaving Minnetonka Blvd for local traffic distribution.Discourage use of Mtka. Blvd by using roundabouts, mandating slower speeds (30 instead of 35), putting in bike lanes and pedestrian walkways separated from the roadway and using solar powered pedestrian crossing beacons to alert drivers that they need to stop for pedestrians.
Local residents and visitors will accept these changes and improvements because they will make the entire community safer and... Continue reading

Better accommodations for cyclists and pedestrians, more trees, please!
by MichaelS, 24 days agoWould like to see bike lanes along Minnetonka Boulevard similar to those along Cedar Lake Road in SLP and along Hennepin Avenue in downtown Minneapolis. I think it is safer for cyclists and motorists to have a dedicated bike lane on the side walk level that is clearly delineated from the pedestrian area. Please include as much green space and space for more trees as possible! -
No more paint-separated bike lanes
by Anondson , 24 days agoThe Cedar Lake Trail detour to Minnetonka Blvd for years has been a disaster for anyone but the most risk-averse athlete. Minnetonka Blvd must be brought up to the same safety standards in order for future trail detours to not destroy cycling use. My spouse and I are not athletes and only go biking for casual trips to the lakes. We abandoned those trips because biking next to drivers on Minnetonka Blvd is terrifying. -
Pedestrian Protection
by Jason, 24 days agoPedestrian crossings that are high visibility and more clearly instruct vehicles to stop.
Do not allow vehicles to pass in the bike lane when traffic is stopped. Do not allow vehicles to pass on the left of busses at bus stops. Both are dangerous for foot and bike traffic.
Rhode Island Ave S crossing is a connection to the trail to the north and Oak Hill Park to the south and should be a priority for an improved crossing. Having this coordinated with speed humps on Rhode Island from Minnetonka to Walker would be a dream and deter frequent speeding... Continue reading
