The Zero Waste Plan
The Hennepin County Zero Waste Plan (PDF) is now available.
Hennepin County is committed to achieving a zero-waste future where all materials are designed to become resources for others to use, the volume and toxicity of waste and materials is systematically eliminated, and all resources are conserved and recovered and not burned or buried.
The county has defined zero waste as preventing 90% or more of all discarded materials from being landfilled or incinerated. The actions in the Hennepin County Zero Waste Plan are designed to collectively move the county as close as possible to the goal of zero waste.

by anner543, almost 3 years agoHi! I’ve been working towards zero-waste and plastic free for a while now and still working on it! Ha but one of the biggest barriers for me is living in an apartment building that does not do composting. It would be great if there were solutions or incentives for multi-unit housing shared with developers or landlords to encourage this. -
Composting definitely
by Tamara liggions , almost 3 years agoI guess I would say using the dishwasher more cuz it does save a lot of water so I have to start doing that -
Building Reuse Systems
by ngaffer, almost 3 years agoMy goal is to build a city-wide reuse system for trash-free takeout and delivery so that every restaurant and cafe can offer reusable takeout containers that customers can check out like library books and return to participating businesses. My team at Forever Ware is making this a reality, if you want to be a part of it, reach out with your resume: https://www.linkedin.com/in/natashagaffer/

Preventing my waste
by Miesha, almost 3 years agoThe most effective way that I can illuminate some of my trash is too buy certain items in bulk. There are many household items that now come in bigger packaging. This will be a win win for me because I will save money since I don't be paying for the packaging and I will also avoid having to throw part of the container away, instead I will reuse it with the refill. -
Buying Bulk
by Darnell, almost 3 years agoSince there is no bulk purchasing opportunities in my community, it has been difficult to try, let alone learn how.
I am going to buy a box of mason jars and take a bus to the nearest cooperative grocery store and ask someone there to teach me how to buy things in bulk. I an so tired of all the plastic packaging that I can't even recycle.
