  • For the new grants for diseased tree removal, if a tree has been identified as having two-line chestnut borer and is not treatable, can this tree qualify for the removal grant if the owner meets low-income requirements?

    Marjorie asked 5 months ago

All non-ash trees are subject to inspection, and only diseased trees will be removed through this grant program. Trees which do not pose significant danger will not be removed through this program.

  • Will we get to pick the type of tree that will replace the one removed?

Keri M asked 2 months ago

Great question! County foresters will provide a list of tree options for replacement trees that is unique to each site. Availability of trees and site details will play into which trees there are for property owners to choose from.

  • How can I get an ash tree on my property inspected and condemned (if it is infested)? I live in North Minneapolis and I meet the requirements for the grant program.

Michael R Lovik asked 4 months ago

To have a tree inspected and condemned, please contact Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board. You can find more information on their process here: Trees & the Urban Forest - Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board (minneapolisparks.org)(External link)

  • When will removal begin If applicant moves before removal, can it be applied to new homeowner

    Deannahanschen@kw.com asked 5 months ago

If an applicant moves, the process will end, and that tree will be taken off the removal list. The application does not transfer to the new homeowner.

  • Should I apply for the Ash Tree Removal if I only suspect they are diseased?

    DeeMadir asked 5 months ago

Thank you for your question. If you suspect your tree(s) are diseased but have not confirmed, you can still apply. Once the intake form has been reviewed, you will be invited to apply if you meet income qualifications. In the second (application) form, please upload photos of your tree(s). A tree inspector will inspect trees on-site to confirm they are qualified for removal. Start the application process here(External link)

  • I have an ash tree recently died from Emerald Ash bore, and was wondering what my income limit has to be to receive help financially from that grant for removal of such trees. Also, how do I apply for it?

    Jimbo asked 8 months ago

Thank you for reaching out. The program is income based. We will be prioritizing applications from owner-occupied property owners in Hennepin County whose household income is below 80% of the adjusted median income for a family of four. View a chart displaying 2023 adjusted median income from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development(External link)(External link).

The application will be online and a two-step process. Both steps will be online applications. Residents will need to upload proof of eligibility (proof of income, assistance programs, etc.) during the second step of the application process. The application will be available in English, Hmong, Somali, and Spanish. We are expecting to have the application open in June 2024.

Please check out the FAQ’s for further information.

    Kind Regards,
