When can residents apply for tree removal?

We plan to open the application for residents in June with services also expected to begin in June 2024. Subscribe to a newsletter on this page to receive notification when applications open along with other updates about the grant.

What residents will qualify for tree removal assistance?

The program is income based. We will be prioritizing applications from owner-occupied property owners in Hennepin County whose household income is below 80% of the adjusted median income for a family of four. View a chart displaying 2023 adjusted median income from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Once the application opens, how will residents apply for assistance?

The application will be online and a two-step process. Both steps will be online applications. Residents will need to upload proof of eligibility (proof of income, assistance programs, etc.) during the second step of the application process. The application will be available in English, Hmong, Somali, and Spanish.

If a qualifying resident has a tree that needs removal before program implementation, can they be reimbursed retroactively for these costs?

Retroactive payments are not allowed per grant guidelines.

Minneapolis residents may be eligible for retroactive reimbursement through a separate funding program. Contact the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board for more information on reimbursement.

    What about stump removal?

We will remove stumps along with trees that are approved for removal as part of this grant program. We will not remove stumps from trees that were removed outside of this program.
