Learn more about the Brookdale Library project
Brookdale Library opened for service in 1981. It was the first library built for the Brooklyn Center community. The library underwent a major renovation and expansion in 2002-03 and reopened in 2004 in its current location. The library is part of a larger complex that houses district courts and a Hennepin County service center.
Planning is underway for a 2027 building remodel. Highlights of the upcoming project include:
- Update the current library space and make it more efficient and patron friendly
- Update the Service Center
- Improve the energy efficiency of the entire building through building-wide infrastructure replacements (roof, lighting, mechanical and electrical system upgrades)
- Install EV vehicle chargers, in alignment with Hennepin County’s Climate Action Plan
