Southdale Library closing Jan. 6 for new construction project
Southdale Library will close Monday, January 6, 2025, to make way for a brand new Southdale Library. The project is expected to take around three years to complete.
The new build will include:
- More effective use of library space
- Collection refresh
- More public meeting rooms
- Focus on sustainability and redevelopment of green space
- Space for Edina Art Center
Holds pickup location
Plans for a temporary holds pickup location are in the works. Details of this temporary space will be shared as they are finalized.
The Southdale Library book return will also be closed during the project. Patrons can return library materials to nearby libraries:

- Washburn(External link), 5244 Lyndale Avenue South, Minneapolis
- Starting spring 2025, Augsburg Park(External link), 7100 Nicollet Avenue, Richfield
