Themes from engagement (May to July 2025)

From May to July 2025, we connected with community members and travelers to learn about their experiences with Gleason Lake Road. The project team introduced the project, gathered community feedback on current issues, and explored peoples’ visions for the road future.

Common themes identified from feedback included trail improvements; safety for all people; and roadway design. The project team will consider these themes during the design process for Gleason Lake Road.

Key themes

  • Trail improvements: Varied trail width, poor surface quality, water ponding, and steep sections along the trail create travel challenges. People also raised accessibility concerns affecting children and older adults.
  • Safety for all: Whether people drive, bike, walk, or roll, they want a safe travel experience. Safety concerns included high speeds, few places to safely cross, and difficulty seeing oncoming traffic.
  • Vegetation: People identified unmanaged vegetation as a factor that obstructs views of oncoming traffic and detracts from the road’s overall appearance. They also expressed appreciation for areas where landscaping, lawns, and trees receive regular maintenance.
  • Speeding & roadway use: People shared concerns about vehicles traveling too fast and noted that the road is used by a mix of local drivers, commuters, commercial trucks, and dealership test vehicles.
  • Road design: People shared how multiple curves, street parking, the absence of curbs, and different uses of the shoulder on Gleason Lake Road should be considered for design updates.
  • Roadway and trail drainage: People noted drainage issues for both the trail and roadway, noting the pooling of water on the trail and flooding.
